JONESBORO, LOUISIANA -- Graveside services for William Melvin Vail, 81, of Jonesboro, LA were held at 2 pm today at Mt. Vernon Cemetery near West Monroe with the Rev. Everett Geis officiating.

Burial was under direction of Southern Funeral home of Jonesboro.

Mr. Vail died at 1:30 pm Sunday in Pinehill Nursing Home in Quitman after a long illness.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace Vail fo Quitman; five daughters, Mrs. Lucille Cramer and Mrs. Joyce Swanner, both of West Monroe; Mrs. Irene Foley of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Ruba Ratka of East St. Louis, Illinois, and Mrs. Estelle Arnold of Bell Garden, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Burks, of Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.//

(Melvin was the son of Benjamin Franklin Vail and Savannah Cordelia Gainey and grandson of Jeremiah Vail, Sr. and Mary Bradley. He married 1. Clara Elizabeth Nappier, daughter of Thomas H. Nappier and Pauline Ball, in Oct. 1918 in Bienville Parish, LA. Their children: Ponez Estelle, Myrtle Irene, Tennie Lucille (Vessel, Cramer, Wooten), Mary Ruby and Freddy Lee Odie Vail. Melvin md. 2. Gracie Ester Gammill.)
