Carlisle, Dec. 21 -- As the result of her clothing catching fire yesterday while she was smoking meat at her home in Newville, Mrs. Martha Weaver, aged 75 years, died a few minutes later. Mrs. Weaver had built a smoldering fire and when it sprang into a blaze her skirts caught fire. With her clothing ablaze the aged and unfortunate woman ran screaming through the house and into the front room, where her daughter, Miss Annie Weaver, was engaged in sewing. The latter rushed to her mother and tried to extinguish the flames. She failed in this attempt until her mother's body had been badly burned. The daughter also received serious burns. During the afternoon the old lady died from the effects of the burns. She leaves three sons and three daughters.
