James Joseph Kerber, age 90, of Belle Plaine, MN, formerly of Chaska and Chanhassen, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Kings Way Retirement Home, Belle Plaine.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, 11:00 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 218 W. 2nd St., Chaska, with Father Michael Kaluza celebrating. The visitation will be from 9-11 AM at the Church on Saturday. Casketbearers will be Jason Schmidt, Denny Wendell, Glen Theis, Larry Theis, Lois Weckman, Francis Kerber, Kurt Kerber, and Terry Kerber. Burial will be at Guardian Angels Catholic Cemetery, Chaska.

James was born June 7, 1922 in Chanhassen, MN, to Dennis and Pauline (Diethelm) Kerber, the oldest son of eleven children. He was baptized, confirmed and attended the parochial school at St. Hubert's Catholic Church, Chanhassen. On June 21, 1949 James married Dorothy Scheuren at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Chaska. They had four children. James worked as a carpenter for 40 years and also farmed from 1955 – 2003. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union and Holy Name Society of St. Hubert's, and the Men's Club at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He loved being a grandpa and a great grandpa and his true passion was horses. Training, shoeing, and working the horses was his life. He helped prepare and smoke the sausage for many years at the Annual Beef and Sausage Dinner at Guardian Angels.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Bonnie Wackerfuss, son, James, grandson, Andrew, brothers, Guido and Leon, sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Ray Scheuren, Lucille and Ralph Weckman, Vern Theis.

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Kerber, of Minneapolis, Laurie Kurtz, and fiancé' Dale Devine, of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Tara (Josh) Storms, Kelly (Chris) DeWane, Katie (Ryan) Dunleavy; great grandchildren, Logan, Oliver, and Emma; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert (Elsie), of Chaska, Bob (Rita), of New Richmond, WI, Richard (Mary Lou), of St. Cloud, Bernie Kerber, of Chaska, Marlene Kerber, of Lakeville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris Theis, of Chaska, Corrine (Norbert) Theis, of Shakopee, Ruth (Leon) Schmidt, of Chaska; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska, MN.
