Old Sammy Doty, one of the very first settlers in this township, is lying at the point of death. He has lived in W. R. township for more than sixty-five years.

Samuel Doty, of White River township, this county, died on Tuesday, the 17th of paralysis. Mr. Doty was eighty-four years old. He came to Johnson county in 1821, and lived on the farm on which he died sixty years. He leaves an aged wife and four children – two sons and two daughters. He was an honest and upright citizen, but had some marked peculiarities. He was never known to travel a toll road, thinking it wrong to pay for traveling on a public highway.
