Anna died of chronic bilateral pulmonary tuberculosis. She was in and out of sanitariums for many years. Due to the extremely poor financial state of the family it is thought she was intermittently treated at the Howell Michigan Sanitarium near Lansing which accepted patients referred from outlying counties for free if they could not pay. At the 1930 census the family was renting a home in Allendale for $10/month; Ben was a "woodsman" at this time.

She appeared to be living at her home for at least 4 months prior to her death.

She left 4 grieving children.
