Louis Acklen was the only casualty then the Fitz-John Porter was sunk on 1 March 1943 by U-518 (Wissmann). Husband of Mrs. Perrie "Pat" Dean Acklen, of Minden, LA. He was also survived by his father and mother, Charley Homer and Evie Cardwell Acklen, brothers L.P. Acklen and J.E. Acklen of Texas City, Texas, Jim J. and Homer D. Acklen of Minden, Wm. E. "Bill" Acklen of Baton Rouge and sisters Marie Acklen Moorehead of Minden and Mary Lou Acklen.
Some paperwork says he went down near Los Lagos, Chile. It was actually offshore Bahia, Brazil.
