Battery C, Captain Williams' "Charlotte Artillery" 1st North Carolina Artillery, Poague's Artillery Battalion, Artillery Division, 3rd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Enlisted on 8/12/1862 at Camp Hill, he was mustered into "C" Co. NC 10th infantry as a Private. This company subsequently became Battery C, 1st NC Light Artillery.
He was Killed In Action, instantly, when he was struck in the forehead by a Union artillery round near the Mule Shoe in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA.
He was survived by his wife, Margaret, and his 2 year old son, Nathan. He personal effects & $45 pay due him were sent to his widow.

The 10th Regiment Volunteers-1st Artillery was organized at Raleigh, North Carolina, in June, 1861, and was composed of five light companies (A,C,D,E, and I) and five heavy companies (B,F,G,H, and K). Companies A, C, D, and E served in the Army of Northern Virginia and took part in the campaigns of that army.
