Effingham, July 9- Capt. William W. Ashbaugh, 88, of Watson township, died in his home at 3 o'clock Tuesday morning. He had been a resident of the county for 76 years, coming when he was a boy of 12 years. He had farmed all of his life here.
Capt. Ashbaugh enlisted twice in the Civil War, in the Union army. He was with the Co. G, 11th Illinois in 1862, being mustered out at the close of the year. He re-enlisted as a corporal the next year, in Co. F. 98th Illinois, and was a captain when he was mustered out.
His wife had been dead for several years. He is survived by two sons Alva and Edwin of Watson township, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Brown of Vandalia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Methodist church of Watson, with burial in the Watson cemetery.

Capt. Ashbaugh, Civil War Veteran, Died, Tuesday

Capt. W. W. Ashbaugh, aged about 88, died at his home in Union township early Tuesday morning following a third stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Ashabaugh died a year ago last April.

Mr. Ashbaugh, a Civil War veteran has been a resident of this county for nearly seventy years and is favorably known by many of our readers.

The deceased is survived by three sons and one daughter, grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral service will be held at Waston this afternoon. The American Legion will officiate at the burial services.
