Funeral from the Riendeau Funeral Home Thursday morning Feb 18 at 8 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church at 9 A.M. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

George A. Doherty, 79, of 150 Bay Street died Saturday at Morton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Aldea "Mina" (Martin) Doherty. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Doherty's Variety Store on Bay Street for 50 years. The store later received extensive damage in a fire, and was eventually demolished. Doherty was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. Son of the late William P. and Evelyn (Hewitt) Doherty, he was born and educated in Taunton. In addition to his widow, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Anna M. Maye of Taunton and Shirley Thompson of Marina del Rey, California; two brothers, Albert Doherty of New York and Joseph Doherty of California; a sister, Mrs. Judith Lynelle of Boston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
