Henry Lewis Hanawalt was the fourth of nine known children of George Swigart Hanawalt (1831-1913) and his third known wife, Lucinda "Muzzie" Stutzman (1851-1929), who married 04 Jun 1874 at Mattawana, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. George was first married to Caroline Matilda McKee (1837-1858) on 09 Nov 1856 in Pennsylvania, with whom he had one known child. After Caroline died, George remarried to Barbara Brumbaugh Replogle (1842-1873) on 01 Feb 1860 near New Enterprise, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. with whom he had nine known children.
