Wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg

Military Record: During the Civil War, Samuel Kissick Carnahan mustered in with the 62nd PA Infantry, Co. A, as a Private, on July 22, 1861, in Pittsburgh, PA. He transferred to the 155th PA Infantry Regiment, Co. F, on Nov. 26, 1861. Samuel's Veteran's Card for the 62nd PA lists his name as "S.K. Carnaghan," and says that he was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg 12-13-62. He must have recovered well enough to return to active duty. His Veteran's Card for the 155th PA lists his name as "Samuel Carnihan," and says that he died of disease on 1 Sep, 1864. His regiment was involved with the Siege of Petersburg, VA, at that time. He had most likely participated in the Battle of Gettysburg, and was at that time in the 3rd Brigade (Weed), 2nd Division (Ayres), 5th Army Corps (Sykes), Army of the Potomac (Meade). Previous to the war, he had been in training for the ministry. He died at the age of 23 years, 11 months. His tombstone is paired up with his brother, Robert C., who also died in the war, and is at Deer Creek Cemetery near Culmerville, Allegheny Co., PA. At the Soldier's Memorial in Pittsburgh, PA, Samuel is listed with the 62nd Regiment as "Samuel K. Carnaghan." [See The Union Army, Vol. 1]
