She and her husband built Mike's Bar (now Dobie's BWR) in 1932 and operated it for many years. They farmed near Dobie until 1958, and also farmed near Brill where they lived until Mike's death on June 14, 1991. Laurene was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She dearly loved making dumplings and kolaches for her grandchildren, and enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, gardening (and canning her harvest), camping and square dancing.
Laurene is survived by 3 daughters: Mary Ann Hensel, Cameron; Phyllis (Robert) Denison, Stone Lake; and Judy (Charles) Running, Lake Elmo, MN; 34 grandchildren; 78 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Ed Morneau of Dallas.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Michael, Sr; 3 sons: Stanley, Paul and Michael Jr.; 1 daughter, Josephine Dostal; 5 sisters: Viola Gabriel, Marie Ostrom, Peggy Harsh, Bernice Malum, and Rita Jilek; 4 brothers: Alfred, Joe, Frank, and Ray Morneau.
Mass of Christian Burial for Laurene Sirek will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie, with Fr. David Oberts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4:45 p.m., and Monday 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church.
