Kay-Kay and Drake had been owned by my brother and my neice individually and lived in different homes originally, but eventually Drake found his way back to a wonderful life with his sister on my brother's farm where they staunchly guarded the barn, helped with the family's cows, and kept their kittie siblings in-line and safe.
When Kay-Kay left for Rainbow Bridge, Drake, at age 12, took awhile to adjust. Eventually he settled into performing his duties alone. Black Jack, better known as just 'Jack', a shepherd mix soon joined Drake on the farm and helped Drake with his chores and duties - when Jack wasn't working on his own duties as a therapy dog and visiting local hospitals and nursing homes.
About two years ago at the age of 13, Drake started to experience problems with arthritis, something his sister had also suffered from slightly. Drake was put on medication and seemed to handle his health challenges very well until only recently. Finally on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, Drake just wasn't able get to his feet to eat his food. Wednesday Drake was taken to see his trusted vet for a consultation and the tough decision was made to place Drake on his path to Rainbow Bridge for his reunion with his sister Kay-Kay and their companion, Mandy. Just three months shy of the age of 15 Drake was allowed to retire to pastures that will stay green always with endless days of ease where he will enjoy a happy life for eternity.
While the entire Fryer family, the kitties, and the cows will all miss Drake terribly and will be saddened not to see his happy face and wagging tail in the barn any longer, everyone is happy in their hearts about the reunion they know had to cause celebration and laughter all around Rainbow Bridge when Drake arrived.
Jack is in charge of both the barn and his therapy career for now. Drake will of course never, ever be forgotten. He will be forever loved by those he left behind; co-existing both in the family's hearts and memories while playing again with his beloved companions.
