Robert Claude Martin was born January 19, 1927 to Vivian Lela and Earnest Claud Martin. He was born at the family home just north of the Baseline on Highway 115, where he resided until his passing. Bob's fervent wish was to live and die on the place of his birth, a wish that was made possible by his children. Bob graduated from Cache High School, received his Associates Degree from Cameron College in Agriculture, and he received his Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma A&M, and was a member of the Block and Saddle Club, in what is now known as Oklahoma State University. Bob served with the 45th Infantry Division Combat Engineers during the Korean War, and was there during some of the worst parts of the conflict, and even extended his time when his service should have been up. Bob was joined in marriage to the love of his wife, Wanda Jo Runnels on January 25, 1953 at the Holy City of the Wichita's. They had just recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. After his marriage to Jo, he worked as a carpenter, taught agriculture to veterans, farmed and eventually took over the Postmaster job that his father had held in Chattanooga. He retired from the Post Office in 1990 after 30 years of service. Even after his retirement, Bob couldn't quit working, and he started a bull-dozer business that is still in operation. Bob was always active in the Chattanooga and Cache communities. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 133, was involved with 4H and FFA, the Chattanooga Riding and Roping Club, coached little league, was very involved with the Chamber of Commerce, and served on the school board in Cache, where he helped to formulate a lot of the current expansion of the Cache School system.
Bob is survived by his wife Wanda Jo of the home, his four children, Robert Claude Martin II of Cache, James Mack Martin and his wife Lynn of Chattanooga, Ginger Gail Merrick of Lawton, Susan Elizabeth Olivarez of Round Rock, TX, his grandchildren: Brian Martin-Teakell, Nicolette Schott, Erin Elizabeth Clemons, Chazitty Lea Martin, Sara Maise Martin, great grandchildren: Aiden Martin-Teakell, Callen Martin, a brother David Linville Martin and his wife Irene, his extended family, Katherine (Katchy) Runnels, Norma Jean and Bob Wall, Ann and Dale Runnels, Pat and Floyd Runnels, Carol and Butch Lynn and Irene and Ronnie Runnels. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and his best friend, J.B. Hill.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, William Nelson (Billy) Martin, George Earnest Martin, John Quentin Martin, in-laws Esther and Ode Runnels and a brother-in-law, Billy Frank Runnels.
