Funeral Service for David Linville Martin, age 92, of rural Chattanooga, OK, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at the Chattanooga School Auditorium with the Rev. Bob Bentley, pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, and Mack Martin, son, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the Chattanooga Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home, Frederick. Mr. Martin passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, in Oklahoma City. David Linville Martin was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Lawton, OK to Claud and Vivian (Linville) Martin. He attended Sunny Side Grade School and transferred to Cache Public Schools, where he graduated from Cache High School in 1940. He attended Cameron Junior College, where he was on the boxing team. David enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the China Burma India Theater. He was discharged at the rank of second lieutenant. After returning home, he continued his education and enrolled in Oklahoma A&M, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He later obtained a master's degree in agriculture economics from Oklahoma State University. He began his teaching career in vocational agriculture and Future Farmers of America in Duncan, OK. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Chattanooga, OK (his hometown), where he was the vocational agriculture instructor and FFA advisor for over 20 years. He was then hired as the Chairman of the Cameron University Agriculture Department, where he spent approximately another twenty years inspiring students to make the most of themselves. One of his many honors and awards is that he was honored by the Future Farmers of America in 1971 with the Honorary State Farmer Degree. Another of his fond memories was that during the 1970s, David worked for KSWO Television and gave the early morning farm to market report to local viewers. One of his fondest activities was when he was selected to be the General Livestock Superintendant of the Tulsa State Fair, where he served for approximately fifteen years. On Aug. 23, 1996, he and Irene Moon Singleton were united in marriage in Oklahoma City. His love of farming and ranching was never ending as he was always looking for new ways to continue his and Irene's farm and ranch operation. In 2012, David traveled to Washington, DC on the Oklahoma Honor Flights with approximately 100 other veterans to visit the World War II Memorial. He was a lifelong member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He is survived by his wife, Irene, of the home; his children, David Linville Martin, II and his wife Janey, of Edmond; Mack Kelly Martin and his wife Vicky, of Oklahoma City; and Eva Ann Sartin and her husband James, of Montgomery, AL; and his grandchildren, Justin Martin, Britney Martin Ramgopal and husband Rajeev, Amber Martin, Matthew Sartin, and Scott Sartin. After he and Irene married, his extended family, who dearly loved David, includes, Jimmy Singleton and his wife Lisa, of Lawton; Glenda Kinney and her husband Robert, of Newalla; Donna Singleton, of Snyder; Telesa Bymaster and her husband Mark, of Cache; Penny DeLong, of Elgin; Debbie Bowden and her husband Tommy, of Lawton; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
