"Alexander Buchanan, the fifth child and fourth son of Jennette Buchanan Blue and William Buchanan, was born May 5, 1843, and died June 27, 1862. He volunteered in the Confederate Army when barely nineteen years old and joined the company to which three of his brothers already belonged. He was killed in action at the Battle of Gaines Mill, which was his first battle. His body was never recovered."
