"William Buchanan was sheriff of Richmond county for a number of years and carried tax money from Laurinburg to Rockingham, a distance of about twenty-five miles, on horseback always leaving during the night. During the Civil War he had a gun shop which was just across the road from his home near Laurinburg.
William died on December 13, 1888, both he and his wife, Jennet, are buried in the Blue Graveyard near Lauringburg, NC."
