Thursie Irene (maiden name unknown) Morgan
born Dec 28, 1888 at her great uncle Jacob R. Lute's house near Cherry Tree in Green Township, Indiana County, PA and died July 20, 1970 at the State's Rest Home in Indiana, Indiana County, PA.

Daughter of Emily Catherine "Emma" Lute and her father is unknown. They were not married.

Half Sister to (other children by her mother Emma):
1) Clair Gurney Lloyd
2) Wade Myers Brothers
3) Avonell "Nell" Brothers
4) Dudley Dean Brothers

Wife of Ellrie Ingram Morgan. This was Thursie's only marriage.

Ellrie and Thursie had 4 children. They are in order of birth:
1) Ellrie Morgan Jr
2) Alice Morgan
3) Lawrence Morgan
4) Harold Morgan

Thursie had 3 children prior to her marriage to Ellrie Ingram Morgan. All three children are by different married men. They are in order of birth:
1) Vesta "Queen" Harkness
2) Kenneth "Ken" Fredrick/Frederick (correct spelling unknown)
3) Anna "Ann" Kimball/Kimble (correct spelling unknown)

Stepmother to (Ellrie's children by his 1st wife Ellen "Nellie" Mae (Elms)):
1) William Clarence Morgan
2) George Walter Morgan
3) John Alden Morgan

Since Thursie did not believe in middle names (even though she herself had a middle name), none of the seven (7) children she gave birth to have one. The children's names from before her marriage to Ellrie (listed above) are in fact those children's biological father's surname.

After Thursie married Ellrie, her children Ken and Ann used Morgan as their surname and their true surname became their middle name. They were happy having Ellrie as their father but they were never officially adopted. They just grew up as Morgan's and went to school using that as their name. Ann never knew the truth about her parentage until much later in life when she went to sign up for Social Security and couldn't find a birth certificate. She was a very young child when Thursie and Ellrie married. She thought she had a strange middle name but didn't know where it came from. When I started tracing our family tree, Aunt Ann asked me about it. She told me what she thought and I verified she was correct. No one told Ann the truth about her parentage because no one wanted to hurt Ann. She was so sweet and sensitive. Ken did know the truth because he was the one who told me. He hated even saying the name Frederick and was proud to be a Morgan. Queen on the other hand refused to go by Morgan and always used her true surname of Harkness.

Thursie grew up not having a last name which must have been terrible for her. If she knew who her father was, she never revealed it her entire life. Her mother Emma left her with her grandmother Matilda to raise. As a child, Thursie used her grandmother's married name of Westover. In about 1916 after her mother had been married to Albert Brothers for many years and her grandmother Matilda had died, Thursie asked her half siblings if she could say her last name was Brothers, they agreed and she started using Brothers as her maiden name.

Thursie told some of her children that she was of Irish decent and told her other children she was Indian (today called Native American). Her grandmother Matilda was pure Irish, actually Scots Irish, so that part is true. DNA testing has confirmed she is not part Native American. For the true story of why Thursie and her siblings thought they were Native American, please read their grandmother's Find A Grave memorial. She was Matilda (Glenn) McCall Lute Westover and you can click on the links below to get to her.

When Thursie died her youngest son Harold became the informant for her death certificate information. He mistakenly said Thursie's mother's maiden name was Luke when in fact it was Lute (Emma Lute). Additionally, as written above, Thursie's didn't have a known maiden name. Harold gave his mother's maiden name as Brothers. This in fact is not correct either.
