Samuel Barnhart, a former resident of New Germantown, died on Sunday evening, March 15, at his home in Bellwood after a week's illness of pneumonia. He had resided in Bellwood for the last 25 years, removing from Newport where he and his family had lived for about 12 years. He was born near New Germantown, March 3, 1848, a son of John and Eliza (Mumper) Barnhart. He was united in marriage with Miss Martha Jane Berrier, August 7, 1873. To this union was born one daughter, Olive Blanche, who died in 1915. Surviving are his wife, an adopted son, T. J. Barnhart, of Tyrone, and two granddaughters.
He was the first engineer on the old Sherman's Valley Railroad.
Funeral services were held at his late home Wednesday morning. The body was brought to Newport for interment Wednesday afternoon.
