Ingeborg (Inge) Stickney, 85, Kooskia

Ingeborg (Inge) Stickney, 85, of Kooskia, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Inge was born in Cologne, Germany, Nov. 15, 1926, to Otto Silberstein and Katherine Aartsen.

She grew up in Cologne, and in 1946 she met and married U.S. serviceman Richard W. Pex. They had one child. Inge came to the U.S. aboard the Queen Mary, moving first to Klamath Falls, Ore. She and Richard were later divorced.

Inge was married to Ross Saxton in 1959 until he passed away in 1969. During this time, they lived in many places throughout the Northwest until eventually moving to Kooskia. Shortly after moving to Kooskia, she started working for the U.S. Forest Service and retired after 19 years. She married Bob Weaver in 1972 until he too passed away. Inge married Ralph Stickney in 1975 and he remains at their Kooskia home.

She was very active in local politics, serving two terms as mayor. She also served on the Credit Union Board and was very active in her community in many ways, including starting and managing the Kooskia Food Bank for many years.

Inge loved politics, community involvement and charity work. She also enjoyed reading, as well as her doll collection and animals. She knew seven languages and promoted education. One of her greatest enjoyments were the foods and sweets from her homeland.

Inge is survived by her husband, Ralph; her three sons; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Kamiah. The Rev. Sipho Mathabelo will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kooskia Food Bank. Trenary Funeral Home of Kooskia is assisting the family.
