Caroline Abel and Samuel Franklin were married on December 4, 1845, in Jackson County, Indiana.

 

In the 1850 Federal census, Samuel Franklin, age 23, and Caroline Franklin, age 23, were living in Hamilton township, Jackson County, Indiana. Samuel was a farmer. They had two children: Francis M. Franklin, age 3 and Samuel M. Franklin, age 2. Living with them was Levi Franklin, age 26.

 

Samuel C. Franklin, age 36, and Caroline Franklin, age 35, were living in Wayne township, Bartholomew County, Indiana. Samuel was a farmer. They had the following children: Francis M. Franklin, age 13; Samuel N. Franklin, age 12; Ann Maria Franklin, age 8; Flora E. Franklin age 2; Dora A. Franklin, age 2 months. Living with them was John M. Franklin, age 40.

 

On April 2, 1866, Caroline Franklin and Edghill Williams were married in Marion County, Indiana.

 

There doesn't appear to be an entry in the 1870 Federal census for Edghill or Caroline Williams.

 

In the 1870 Federal census, Samuel Franklin, age 51, was a farmer living in Hamilton township, Jackson county. Living with him were children Samuel Franklin, age 22, farmer; Lucinda Franklin, age 16, keeping house - likely wife of Samuel; Flora Franklin, age 11, at home; and Dora Franklin, age 9, at home. There were other people living on the farm: Alice Peterman, age 16, domestic servant; Mary Forgey, age 25, housekeeper, and her son Charles Forgey, age 5 months; three day laborers: Dennis McGeath, age 25; Frederick Cameron, age 24; William Smearsaw, age 22. Thomas Peterson, age 21, worked on the farm; and Susan Peterman, age 14, was a domestic servant.

 

In the 1880 Federal census, Edghill Williams, age 40, was a carpenter. Caroline Williams, age 47, was a housekeeper. Living with them was Dora Franklin, age 18, at home. The family was living in Hamilton township, Jackson County.

 

The couple were living in Hamilton township, Jackson county, according to the 1900 Federal census. Edghill Williams was 61 years old and was a carpenter. Caroline Williams was 70 years old. Living with them was daughter Bessie Williams, age 21, having been born about December 1878.


Edghill Williams died in 1901.


As best can be determined, no obituaries or death notices were found in Seymour or Brownstown newspapers for Caroline Willams.

 

Note: there does not appear to be a Find a Grave memorial for Caroline's first husband Samuel Franklin. He does not appear after the 1880 Federal census, when he was living in Redding township, Jackson County, Indiana, age 58, and was a farmer. He'd married again; his wife was Cassander Franklin, age 46. She was born Cassander Sparks, and was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Riesce Sparks. Living with them were sons Charley Franklin, age 10; John Franklin, age 1; and Phillip Franklin, age 17. Cassander Sparks was initially married on November 30, 1855, to James Fister. The county isn't identified; only that they were married in Indiana. Cassander Franklin remarried on March 10, 1895, in Brownstown, Indiana to Joseph H. Robbins, according to United Methodist Church records (Ancestry). According to her death certificate and Find a Grave memorial (08351763), she was born on January 6, 1836, in Columbus, Ohio; and died on January 21, 1914, in Rockford, Jackson County, Indiana. She and Joseph Robbins are buried at Riverview Cemetery.
