Peter Abell was born to Pollard and Cathy (Miller) Abell on Miller Pike, near Lebanon, Washington (now Marion) County, Kentucky. His grandparents were: George and Elizabeth (_____) Abell and David and Deborah (Rooks) Miller. Peter's parents moved to Crawford County, Indiana in the 1820s.

Peter Abell was first married to Nancy Abell, daughter of Enoch Abell, in Nelson County, Kentucky. Their marriage bond dated March 21, 1832, show Nancy's father as the surtety. This marriage bond can be found in the County Clerk's Office in Bardstown, Kentucky. Shortly after this marriage Peter and Nancy moved to Seymour, Indianna where they resided until Nancy Abell died there in 1844. He and Nancy (Abell) Abell were the parents of: William H. Abell, 1833-1911; Elizabeth Cordelia (Abell) Scott, 1836-1916 Mary C. Abell, 1837-1892; George Robert Abell, 1841-1926; and John D. Abell, 1841-xxxx.

Shortly after Nancy's death Peter made a quick trip to Kentucky to find a wife. On August 17. 1845, Peter Abell married secondly to Elizabeth Calomese Tucker, 1847-1915, daughter of Dabney and Jane (Coppage) Tucker. They went to Seymour, Indianna in August 1845 but because the young bride became homesick, Peter returned to the Stewart's Creek area and purchased land on McElroy Pike adjoining his father-in-law and built a log house there, which was dismantled and sold in 1995. He and Elizabeth had ten children: Fielding Taylor Abell, 1847-1915; Samuel N. Abell, 1849-xxxx; Sarah (Abell) Collins, 1851-xxxx; Susan Nancy (Abell) Collins, 1854-1887; Dinah (Abell) Cowherd, 1855-1920; Adeline "Addie" (Abell) Sullivan, 1859-1934; Peter G. Abell, 1859-1921; Hugh Abell, 1862-xxxx; Amanda (Abell) Wade, 1866-1942; and Mattie (Abell) Burdette, 1868-1948.

On November 9, 1880, Peter was drowned in the Rolling Fork River while driving cattle across it. He was 70 yearas old. His widow lived on the farm and died their in 1915.

Peter is buried in Section A of Ryder Cemetery.
