On Saturday, March 12th, 2011, our most loved Monica Craghead Long of Crescent Road, Beckley, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House after an extended illness. She was 69 years of age. Known affectionately as "Mickey" all her life, Monica was born September 7, 1940, at Speedway. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Clarica Robertson Craghead. Her brother, Harry Craghead, has preceded her in death. Monica taught for the Raleigh County Schools for 38 years, retiring from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1999. She was a graduate of Concord College in Athens where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Monica will live on in the memory of those who hold her dear, including her husband, Harold Long, and daughters, Lisa Long Holt and Shanna Long Holzapfel. Also left to cherish her memory are her sons-in-law, Joseph Holt of Charlotte, NC, and Gregory Holzapfel of Kent, OH; sister-in-law, Donna Craghead of Beckley; niece, Tracy Williams and her husband, Larry, of Beckley; nephew, Christopher Craghead and his wife, Thelma, of Hinton; nephew, Nicholas Craghead and his wife, Kim, of Princeton, and many additional relatives and friends. Monica was very devoted to her three grandchildren, Jordan Holt, Jillian Holt and Jackson Holzapfel whom she treasured dearly. Monica's family wishes to extend their special gratitude to her caregivers at the Bowers Hospice House of Beckley for their loving care in her time of need, Pastor Dewey Lowe for his guidance and support during this difficult time, and all of her friends who provided support and assisted with her care including Corinna Ambrose and Joy Hill. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16th, at 11 a.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Committal services will at 1 p.m. at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Copen, Christopher Craghead, Nicholas Craghead, Rick Lilly, Rick Lilly Jr. and Dennis Robertson.
