"KILLED BY LIGHTNING - Edward [sic - Edwin] Bishop, a Farmer, Killed Near Ensenore and Charles DeFields an Auburn Lineman, Killed Near Utica. Death came quickly to Edward [Edwin - R. A. Post] Bishop, a farmer residing on the Jay Weeks stock farm, about one mile west of Ensenore in the town of Scipio late yesterday afternoon [NOTE: Edwin Bishop died 13 July 1905 - R. A. Post]. Bishop and John Couling were engaged in hoeing corn and when the storm broke started on a run for the house. They had proceeded but a few rods when there was a blinding flash and both men were stricken to the earth. Couling rendered unconscious. When he regained consciousness he found that Bishop was dead. The bolt had thrown Bishop several feet into a wire fence, cutting a gash in his head. Coroner O'Neill and Undertaker Tallman of this city were notified and at once started for the scene. Bishop was about 48 years old and leaves a wife and seven children. . . . ."

"Lightning's Victim Buried. The funeral of the late Edwin Bishop, who was killed by lightning Thursday afternoon, was held at his late home on the Jay Wicks' [sic - Weeks'] farm in the town of Scipio, Sunday afternoon. The funeral was very largely attended by friends and relatives of the deceased. The floral tributes were very numerous and beautiful. The Rev. Mr. Baldwin of the church at East Venice officiated, and the choir of the Baptist church of Scipio rendered selections during the services. Louis Smith, Thomas Coalson [Coulson - R. A. Post], Joseph Wyant, William Silkworth, Charles Baldwin and Coral Culver all members of the K. O. T. M., of which the deceased was a member, acted as bearers. The services at the grave were conducted by the members of the K. O. T. M. of Scipio. Burial was in the Scipio rural cemetery."
