NEW HARGER STONES: Twining Cemetery List confirms burial of David & Jerusha Harger in Twining Cemetery. However, only sunken graves were found next to their children. In May, 2015, appropriate aged field stones were erected to mark their burial location. In Sept, 2016, a modern formal stone for them was placed in front of the unmarked field stones.
TOLLAND HOMESTEAD 60:
HARGER PLACE: About 3 to 4 miles north on East Otis Road was an old cellar hole on high ground near the west side of the road. David Harger, a shoemaker lived here many years and raised a family of seven children. In the early days, people in isolated districts depended on the local shoemaker for their boots and shoes. It was customary for the cobbler to go to the home, take measurements and return home where he made the shoes himself by hand. They were very crude indeed compared to those of the present time. They used a straight last and one shoe could be worn on either foot giving greater lasting qualities. A Mr. Higgins, also a shoemaker had to retire because of age. Lyman Twining persuaded Mr. Harger to come to Tolland. He gave him a life time lease on 25 acres of land to build his house and to follow his trade.

ACCOUNT OF DEATH PER
HATTIE HILL MOORE (Granville Historian):
While walking along north of his home, and climbing a steep hill near the home of Henry Soule, he was stricken with a heart attack, fell to the ground and died instantly. Although a young child at the time, the writer, Hattie Hill Moore, remembers the sensational manner of the passing of Mr Harger and the place where he fell. He made shoes for members of my family, myself included, and for everyone who lived in the neighborhood. Besides working at his trade, he also helped the neighbors with their farm work.
