Geneva Askam of West Liberty Called in Death
West Liberty - Mrs. Geneva Askam, 89, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Lippelgoes nursing home in Muscatine of a lingering illness.
The daughter of Hugh and Mary Reid. She was born Oct. 1, 1862, near Durant. She came to the Cedar Valley farming community as a small child and lived here the rest of her life. She was married to James Askam Oct. 4, 1882, at West Liberty. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are three sons, Clark, Muscatine, and Reuben and George, both of West Liberty; 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in March of 1929, and also by a son, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Snider funeral home. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery.
