ღ Great GrandAunt ღ

Mary Jane Rust, was born 1846 (not 1851) in Gallatin County, Kentucky, USA, and was the daughter of Albert G. "AL" "Arkansas" Rust and Martha Cole Rust, and married Ballard Love on September 1, 1864 in Gallatin, Kentucky, USA in the residence of Elbert and Catherine Elizabeth Rust Sutton, Catherine being Mary Jane's elder sister. At this time Mary went by her first name, and at the time was known as Mary Love (or Mary Rust Love) by others. Ballard Love's parents were Fleming and Susannah Jane "Susan" Troxel Love, both parents buried in Missouri.
Ballard served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War found enlisted on March 1, 1862 in Missouri, USA to the 3rd Cavalry Battalion Missouri Cavalry; also known as Greene's Regiment, after its commander Colonel Colton Greene. As was often customary, it is safe to say Mary Jane followed her husband to be with him in Missouri after they married in 1864. At this time it seems they had no children together. Ballard died October 8, 1868 in Moniteau, Missouri, USA. After the Civil war ended Ballard and Mary Jane likely remained settled in or around Moniteau, Missouri, USA, near where his parents were living and where Ballard passed away. He passed away only a little over 4 years after he married Mary Jane Rust Love.

Mary Jane now is living in Missouri known as Mary Love, or Mary Jane Love, and Missouri is near where Sylvanus "Van" Rust is found on 7 May 1870 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA, enlisted into the U.S. Army by Lieutenant Moylan for 5 years; from Kenton County, Kentucky, farmer; grey eyes, light hair, height 5'11"; Regiment Calvary, Company I, Deserted March 7, 1871. Fort Leavenworth is near Missouri. I believe this is where Mary Jane met up again with Sylvanus Rust, whom she likely knew before from earlier years while growing up and living in Kentucky with her father Albert G. Rust, since both Mary and Sylvanus were known to be from Kenton County, Kentucky. The parents of Sylvanus Rust are listed in records as William D. and Eliza Jane Little Rust. Sylvanus' father is also a farmer and tobacconist, as was Albert G. Rust, the father of Mary, so it's safe to say Albert and William were close to each other, and more than likely Mary and Sylvanus knew each other from childhood.

Now Sylvanus and Mary Jane are both living back in Kentucky again and marry on December 15, 1873 in Kenton County, Kentucky, USA. Mary Jane is now known as Mary Love by her married name, and at sometime after her marriage with Sylvanus she begins to go by her middle name Jane, or known as Jane Love Rust. It is safe to say after looking over many records that Jane Rust Love-Rust is Mary Jane Rust Love-Rust. The headstone lists Mary Jane's birth as 1851, which is incorrect. As we know there is a history of some of the children of Albert G. Rust having their birth year changed for likely the lack of knowledge by those giving the information for placing the headstones. She was actually born 1846. There are records showing Sylvanus married a Mary Love, and records which show Mary Jane Rust married Ballard Love. Since Mary began using her middle name Jane, she became known as Jane Rust Love-Rust, which over time has led others to believe her maiden name was Love when actually Rust is the maiden name for her, and Love is the surname of her first husband prior to her marriage to Sylvanus Rust. Once married Sylvanus and Mary Jane Rust Love-Rust then moved to live in Tennessee where Mary Jane passed away in 1904. She is buried in the same cemetery as her second husband Sylvanus "Van" Rust. There are no known children found at this time by Mary and Ballard Love.

Known children of Sylvanus "Van" and Mary Jane Rust Love-Rust:
A) Ella E. Rust Davis, born February 22, 1877 in Boone County, Kentucky, USA; died on October 8, 1942 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA. Ella is buried in the same cemetery as her parents along with her husband. Ella married Samuel Houston Davis. Information on Ella and Samuel is from Dennis Holt Member #47675956, confirmed by records found on Ancestry, with records confirming Ella is the daughter of Sylvanus and Mary Jane.
B) Eliza Florence Rust Binkley, born May 10, 1883 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, USA; died November 7, 1943 in Joelton, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA. She married Eugene Farnsworth Binkley June 22, 1913 in Cheatham County, Tennessee, USA. Eugene is the brother to Oaklona L. "Oakie" Binkley.
NOTE: Eliza Rust is listed on census records with Ella and Samuel one year. The census claims she is a daughter to Ella, but that cannot be as the ages are wrong. The age of Eliza was given as 26, born about 1884, and she would be too old to be a child of Ella and Samuel. This then gives proof the parents of Ella and Eliza both are Sylvanus and Mary Jane. Eliza is certainly not a child of Ella and Samuel.
Also, the parents of Eugene Farnsworth Binkley and Oaklona L. "Oakie" Binkley (the 2nd wife of Sylvanus) are Franklin "Frank" Pierce and Mary Ann Krantze Binkley.

May our beloved and sweet Mary Jane rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May the angels carry my love for you to Heaven, Aunt Mary Jane. May the Circle be unbroken.

Sylvanus passed away April 30, 1927 in Davidson County, Tennessee, USA in the Davidson County Asylum for the Aged, Insane and Destitute; Marital Status listed as Widowed (for which he was widowed from Mary Jane, but he was still married to Oakie); Occupation listed as Farmer.
So far there are no available cemetery burial records yet to be been found for Mary Jane's first husband Ballard Love. Ballard likely is buried in Missouri where he died, but exactly where is yet undetermined.
