The Obituary of Abraham Peters
As printed in the German "Zionsbote"

Abraham Peters, husband and father, was born in South Russia, in the village of Fischau on the 28th January 1859. He lived there through his schools years. In the year 1876 he immigrated to America with his parents, Jacob Peters. They settled on a farm southwest of Inman, Kansas. He lived on this place all the rest of his life.

On the 4th of January 1883, he married me, Anna Kroeker. In the year 1888 he found peace and forgiveness for his sins in the blood of the Lamb and was baptized on May 21 on his confession of faith and was accepted as a member of the Zoar Church.

He was blessed with good health till his last 5 years...after that he was sickly especially during the winter months. During Holiday get togethers he often said "This maybe my last time.". But he encouraged us to
continue to have get together, read some verses out of the Bible, sing some songs, and pray.

Last March his sickness became worse so that he was in much pain. We took our requests to the Lord in prayer and the Lord gave relief. Now he felt in a special way that he should put his affairs in order because he seemed to feel that his death was near. He was, as far as we know, brought all of his sins, and cares under the blood of the lamb but in the last six months he struggled with serious faith questions. He again prepared himself for death.

On the 25th of August his sickness became much worse so that he became bedfast. Again he prepared his mind so that he was ready to die. He came so far that he had joy and reminded us that we are not without hope and we should not grieve for him. He suffered greatly with his breathing because he had asthma. Because of his health problems his memory brought to mind scripture passages out of Gods Word. "Trust in the Lord, put your hope in him and he will make everything well. Call on me in your toubles. And
"He who comes to me I will not put out", "All our sins he redeemed and forgave", "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine", *Lord, stay with me." And finally, "When strikes the clock, when may I go? Home, going home". One night at 3:00 he gave a special testimony, that he had "Joy". Before he died he said farewell to us.

He died the 3rd of September, 9:45 in the morning. He died at the age of 72 years,7 months and 6 days. They were married 48 years, 8 months less I day where we shared both joy and sorrow. Children born, twelve, 8 sons and 4 daughters. Two sons and one daughter die in infancy.

His survivors: his wife, six sons and three daughters. One son in law, three daughters in law, 19 grandchildren, (2 are deceased) and one brother. These mourn his passing. We feel joy that the Lord has taken him and that we do not need to mourn his passing. We feel joy that the Lord has taken him and that we do not need to mourn his passing and that we too should have this hope.

We want to thank family and friends, who have helped us in this difficult time. It is painful to say goodbye to Father but we wish for him a blessed Rest.
