YORK - Jay E. Miller, 72, of Manchester Township, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in Lancaster.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at William E. Little Funeral Homes, 2150 Carlisle Rd., York. Viewings will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday (March 26) at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, with military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born January 1, 1933, in York, the son of the late Charles F. and Margaret (Kleinerd) Miller, he was the founder of Jay's Markets and had recently worked in the marketing department of Sam's Wholesale Club.
He was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School; a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, York, where he was a Sunday School teacher; past President of the Pennsylvania Food Merchant's Association; a member of the YMCA of York since 1941; a member of Eagle Scout troop #37 since 1949; was one of the founders of the York County Food Bank; a former member of the York White Rose Foundation; a member of Loyal Order of Moose #148; Shiloh American Legion #0791; York V.F.W. Post #556; Korean War Veterans York Chapter #178; and served in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Brenda (Schewell) Miller of York; three sons, Stan E. Miller, Tyrone C. Miller, and Joey J. Miller, all of York; two daughters, Susan D. Wolf and Sandra L. Desenberg, both of York; 22 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
