Sociologist. He began his career with studies on psychiatry, following the line of Michel Foucault, but it was his analysis of the formation of the world of wage labor and its decline from the 1970's which earned her widespread recognition. He devoted himself to study the consequences of wage labor on the social integration and status of contemporary individual, and also noted the threats to social cohesion because of the emergence of a world of iunemployment and precariousness. Was in 1995 when he published "The metamorphosis of the social question", a classic for the study of social inequalities, which investigated the fight of the working class by the extention of their rights and wage protections. He was a disciple of Pierre Bourdieu and Raymond Aron. Among his major books are "The psychiatric order: the golden age of alienism", "The risks management: from the anti-psychiatry to the post-analysis", "Social insecurity. What is being protected?" and "Negative discrimination: Indians or Citizens?".
