Mary Grangaard, 89 of Hemet , California passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Sunrise Assisted Living in La Palma , California . Born Monday, October 2, 1922 in Vermillon South Dakota, she was married to the late Darrell Grangaard for 64 years. She spent her time as a homemaker and taking care of the family. Mary was an excellent cook and was famous for her baking of pies, bread and wonderful cinnamon rolls. Family was very important to her and she just spoiled the grandchildren as grandmothers should. Mary and Darrell both grew up on farms in South Dakota . In 1944 they moved to California and Darrell built two homes from the ground up. Mary liked to read, crochet and write poetry. She was known to say... " Don't take any wooden nickels" . Her family describes her as funny, sassy, thoughtful. She was really fun to be around and made conversations easy. During their retirement years Darrell and Mary did a lot of traveling in their RV. During one trip into Canada there was an incident with the border patrol , the back seat of a patrol car and hand cuffs. Needless to say they were asked to leave the country on that day. They loved the adventure and fellowship of travelling by RV all over the country and visited Canada many times after "The Incident." She will be sorely missed by all her friends and family.
