Mary Jane Mills Hammer Bond
Mary Jane Mills moved with her family from Ohio to Salem, Iowa somewhere between 1849-1852. When she was 21 years of age, ca 1854, she married Hiram Hammer in Iowa. Hiram died in 1866, leaving her with five young children to raise. On 27 Nov 1869, Mary Jane married John Silas Bond in Hardin Co, Iowa. Together they had three children, all born in Iowa: Elizabeth (b. 1870), Sarah (aka Sadie, b. 1873) and Esther (aka Hettie, b. 1876). This was the second marriage for both of them. John had seven children from his first marriage to Elisabeth Kölling (Collins) and Mary Jane had five children from her first marriage. John and Mary Jane moved from Iowa to California in 1887 and remained there until their deaths.
