Marcia was the oldest of six children. In her early years, she worked as a telephone operator. She later worked in various secretarial positions at East Stroudsburg University, ultimately becoming secretary to the president. She married Robert Heller in 1955, and Rev. John H. Lackey performed the ceremony. The couple raised two sons and one daughter.
