Clarence J. Poe, 92, of rural New Holstein, formerly of Collins, passed to Eternal Life Sunday morning Feb. 18, 2001 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 6, 1908 in Manitowoc, son of the late Charles and Johanna Marten Poe.
He attended First German Lutheran School in Manitowoc.
On Jan. 10, 1942 he married the former Meta Born at First German Lutheran in Manitowoc.
From 1942 until 1946 Clarence served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater and also spent time in South Africa during World War II. He was employed for many years at Born Hardware in Collins as a metal and ductwork fabricator and in furnace installation and service.
He was a past member of St. Peters Church in Collins and the Collins Fire Department. He also was a member of the Collins Senior Citizens, where he held many offices over the years.
Clarence was an avid bowler and continued to bowl when he was well into his eighties.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Meta; one daughter, Barbara Bohn of New Holstein; two grandchildren, Heath and Christian Bohn of Sheboygan, Amy and Chris Jeanty of New Holstein, a step-great grandchild, Trevor Bohn. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Poe of California, Joanne Poe of Muskego; a brother and sister-in-law, Elwood and Linda Habermann of Oshkosh. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Arthur and a son-in-law, Richard Bohn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Louis Corners.
