He was born March 23, 1935, in Fostoria, to Guy and Thelma (Rasey) McClellan. He married Imagene Purkey April 12, 1959, at Rehoboth Church, Fostoria.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Richard (Diane Bloom) McClellan of Bloomdale; one daughter, Lori (Richard) Caughey of Balivar; one daughter-in-law, Michelle McClellan of Powell; two brothers, Wayne (Diane) McClellan of Fostoria, and Robert (Nancy Corner) McClellan, of Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Randy McClellan.
Sonny was a 1953 graduate of Fostoria High School. He retired in 1987 as a maintenance foreman at National Electrical Carbon with more than 30 years of service.
Sonny attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale, where he was a former trustee of the church. He was a member of Fostoria Sportsmen's Club. Sonny was a military history buff, and collected milk bottles. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, camping and square dancing. Sonny played the guitar, enjoyed auto racing, was a lover of animals and could fix anything.
