Bert was a WWII, U. S. Army Veteran. He has fought in Northern France; Rhineland; Central Europe: Ardennes. Bert was decorated and cited with 4 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Ribbon.

His trade was a carpenter after leaving the service, which he loved so much.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Pearlie M. Arrowood, and sons: Johnny Ray and Ronald Arrowood.
