Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Long, 73, were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Smith at 2 P.M., Sunday. Rev. M. L. Jones officiated and Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Ed De Haas furnished the music. She died on Thursday, February 19, following a long ailment of the heart.
Interment was made in the Valley View Cemetery.
Alice Elizabeth Long was born in British Hollow, Wisconsin, June 21, 1874, the daughter of Alfred & Elizabeth Thomas.
When a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm near Hull. She attended the Hull schools from which she graduated in June 1891.
On July 1st she was married to Ira J. Long and moved to Sanborn, Iowa. While living there she became a member of the Presbyterian Church.
To this union eight children were born. One daughter, Maud, passed away at the age of six years.
In 1910 she moved to Rock Valley and has lived here since, except for a few years residence in California.
She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters, Mrs. C. M. Smith and Mrs. W. B. Hansen of Rock Valley, and Mrs. J. P. Goldsmith of South Gate, California; four sons, H. J. Long of Rock Valley; L. L. Long of Parker, SD; L. B. Long of Marion, SD, and Robert A. Long of Long Beach, CA.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
