Ira Long passed away Thursday, September 18, 1947 following a stroke at a nursing home in Hartley, where he had been cared for the past two years. Mr. Long had lived in Sanborn for many years following his trade as meat cutter and butcher.

Ira J. Long was born November 25, 1870 at British Hollow, Wisconsin, to Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Long, who have preceded him in death.

The family came to Iowa early in 1891. Later the same year, Mr. Long was united in marriage to Alice Thomas of Rock Valley, and they made their home in Sanborn for a number of years before the family moved to Rock Valley. Eight children were born to them; one daughter is deceased.

He later married Esther S. Tifft of Sanborn on April 9, 1918 at Sibley, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1935 at Sanborn.

Besides the seven children of his first marriage, he is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Florence Thorpe of Sioux City, and several grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Roseland cemetery, Sanborn, by Rev. G.F. Butler.
