Confederate veteran James Clanahan was born in 1824 in Alabama, although little is known about his early life. He was a mechanic by trade before enlisting in the Confederate Army.
He joined the 21st Mississippi Regiment, Griffith's Brigade June 1861, and saw action near Lynchburg, Virginia.
After the Civil War, Clanahan settled in Mexia, Texas before being admitted to the Confederate Men?s Home in Austin on April 15, 1899. He died August 8, 1907 and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
