He loved history and earned three degrees in the subject. He received a bachelor's degree from the University at Massachusetts, Amherst in 1960, a master's degree from Boston University in 1963, and a Phd from the University of Texas @ Austin in 1968. He taught history at Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. While in Denton, he worked for FEMA.
He died on Thursday June 29, 1999 at Denton Community Hospital from complications from single bypass heart surgery.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Catherine Merino Reisman of Haddonfield, N.J., Anthony Dubis Merino of Denton, Texas and Dominic John Merino and his wife Martha of Friendswood, Tx.and four cherished grandchildren, D. J. Merino and Natalie M. Merino, Jacob M Reisman and Joseph S. Reisman. He also is survived by two sisters, Sylvia Merino McNorton, of Exeter, New Hampshire and Marianne Merino Russell of Freemont, New Hampshire and three nephews and four nieces.
