Myrtis Smith Dies At Home of Daughter
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel for Mrs. Urban (Myrtis) Smith, 77, whose death occurred Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Forrest Stevens in Lynn Township.
Rev. Richard Brownfield, pastor of First Methodist church, officiated. Interment was in Galva cemetery.
Contributions are being received for the First Methodist building fund in memory of Mrs. Smith. Funds may be left with Mrs. Vern Mount at First National Bank in Galva.
The former Myrtis Jones was born July 19, 1887 on a farm near LaFayette, one of seven children of Frank S. and Emma Manley Jones. She attended LaFayette schools, graduating in 1904. Her marriage to Urban Smith took place Dec. 20, 1906 at her parents' home. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1959.
All of her life was spent in the Galva vicinity. She was a member of First Methodist church and the Mizpah class.
One daughter survives, Mrs. Forrest (Lillian) Stevens, seven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Grace) Carlson, of Galva, and Mrs. Bella Peterson, of Quincy, together with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, three brothers and a sister.
