Helen Davies; 78; teacher 34 years

Helen McTomany Davies, 78, of 117 Whitestone Drive died yesterday in Community-General Hospital. She had retired as a teacher after 34 years in the Syracuse School District. She taught 17 years at Nichols Elementary School. Mrs. Davies was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a world associate member of the National Wildlife Federation. Mrs. Davies was the widow of Emlyn Davies who died in 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert Costello; a cousin, Dorothy Kappesser; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul Herpich officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
