The Shelter Island Reporter carried his funeral notice on November 18, 2004: "John G. Hollenbach of Menantic Road, a longtime island resident died at his home on November 14, 2004 after a long illness. He was 89. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey and employed by the Western Electric Company, Mr. Hollenbach and his wife moved to Shelter Island upon his retirement in 1981. He is survived by his wife Agnes, their children Helen Melic and Peter and Carl Hollenbach, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Friday, November 19 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to East End Hospice or the Shelter Island Red Cross Ambulance Fund."
