Death of Former Waverly Resident
Mrs. Lucinda Fisher Dies in Springfield. Funeral Services and Burial at Waverly.
Mrs. Lucinda Holden Fisher died Saturday, September 20th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. Kennedy, 521 South State Street, Springfield, Ill., at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
Deceased was the daughter of Reuben H. and Mary Holden and was born near Litchfield, Ill., November 2, 1843. She was married September 24, 1863 to Isaac Fisher, who preceded her in death seventeen years.
To this union were born five children, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining three are Mrs. F. E. Kennedy of Springfield, Mrs. E. M. Lowrance of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Mrs. T. W. Burns of Waverly. Besides her children there are seven grandchildren, Luther E. Kennedy of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. C. B. Schmeltzer and Fletcher F. Kennedy of Champaign, Ivan Kennedy of Streator, Wendell Kennedy of Springfield, Robert E. and Harold E. Burns of Waverly.
Mrs. Fisher was converted in early life, uniting with the Baptist church near her home, and lived a consistent, consecrated Christian life.
Following her marriage to Isaac Fisher she lived on a farm near this city until 1900, when she and her husband moved to Waverly, later going to live at El Dorado Springs, Mo., where Mr. Fisher died. Living there until 1922 she then went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. Kennedy, at Springfield, where she resided until her death.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a true friend and kind neighbor. She will live in the hearts and minds of those who knew her, as one whose example of patient endurance has proved a lesson to be cherished and remembered.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon, September 22nd, at the Baptist church in this city, of which church she had long been a member. The officiating minister was Rev. T. C. Coffey, of Springfield, a pastor of the church over twenty years ago.
The pall bearers were the grandsons of the deceased, and she was laid to rest in East cemetery.
"She lived for those who loved her,
For those who knew her true,
For the heaven that smiled above her
And the good that she might do."
