Sylvia M. Wanek, age 80, a former Two Rivers resident, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, with her son, Richard, daughter-in-law, Sandi and their family by her side, at Charlotte Health Center, Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, Holy Redeemer Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien with entombment to follow at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc.
Sylvia was born Feb. 4, 1923, in the town of Gibson, daughter of the late Wencel and Agnes Pekar Kouba.
On April 25, 1942, she married Edwin Wanek at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mishicot. The couple enjoyed 51 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1994.
Sylvia and Edwin owned and operated Wanek's Hilltop in Francis Creek from 1965 to 1978. Sylvia then worked at Two Rivers Community Hospital in nutrition services.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Jeanne and Ronald Rozum, Whitelaw; Susan Wallander, DePere; and Sharon and Jeff Fischer, Green Bay; five sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Sandi Wanek, Charlotte, N.C.; Dave and Judy Wanek, Manitowoc; Kenneth and Kathy Wanek, Appleton; Donald and Ruth Wanek, Arizona; and Allen and Ellen Wanek, Sheboygan; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother and five sisters-in-law: Jerry and Vivian Kouba, Gertrude Kouba, Ruth Kouba, Viola Parizek; and Helen (Emil) Havlovitz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Henry, Edward, James and Joseph; and three sisters: Agnes, Elsie and Anne.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter The Fisherman Parish, Holy Redeemer Site on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Sylvia loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, enjoyed gardening, sheepshead and doing crossword puzzles.
