EDGELL, Dewey D., 80, of New Cumberland, W.Va., passed away Monday, March 31, 2008.

He was born April 25, 1927 in Reader, W.Va., a son of the late James and Hazel (Chaplin) Edgell.

Dewey was a World War II Army veteran; a retired welder of 28 years at National and Weirton Steel; a member of the 25 year club; a member of the New Cumberland VFW; and the Tiltonsville American Legion.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ruth (Porter) Edgell; three sons, Terry, Jim and Carl D. Edgell; two daughters, Judy Cooper and Jeanette Hughes; a grandson, Carl D. Edgell, Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Randa Ann Elizabeth Lang; five brothers; and four sisters.

Surviving are his family, a son, David Edgell and wife, Loretta, of Flushing, Ohio; two daughters, Karen Persina and husband, Philip, whom Dewey resided with in Follansbee and Tammy Maderia and husband, Joseph, of Follansbee; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Edgell of Ohio and Phillip S. Edgell of West Virginia; and two sisters, Anna Jane Tennant of Reader and Faye Bonder of Youngstown.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Craig Greathouse officiating.

Interment will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery, where the West Virginia National Honor Guards and the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord military services.
