"Lester Adolph Wilda, age 77, of Manitowoc, died Saturday, 4 May 1996, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

"Lester was the oldest of three children born to the late Adolph & Mayme (Kubsch) Wilda. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. During World War-II he served with the US Navy in the Pacific." He served on the U.S.S. Pickaway (APA/LPA-222); a Haskell-class attack transport launched on 5 November 1944. The ship received one battle star for World War-II service & six battle stars for Korean War service.

"On 23 June 1941, Lester married Mercedes M. Skubal in Two Rivers. Born 27 June 1919 in Mishicot (Township)in Manitowoc County, WI; Mercedes was the second of six children {five daughters & one son} born to Anton & Julia (Jirasek) Skubal.

"In 1980, Lester retired from the Mirro Corporation as a general foreman; he had worked at Mirro for 35 years.

"Lester was a member of Amvet's Post #99, Traveler's Protective Association, and Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. Lester was an avid fisherman.

"Lester is survived by his wife & five children; he was preceded in death by his parents & an infant sister, Joyce Wilda."
