[The Bloomington Evening World, February 20, 1905, page 1, column 3]

Lorena Chandler Wampler was born in Monroe County, Indiana in 1868 to William Riley Chandler, Jr. (1831–1915) and Nancy Jane Scott (1840–1877).
Lorena married John Warring Wampler on December 24, 1890 and they had five children; Nellie F. Wampler Dupree (1891–1913), Bessie Wampler Johnson (1894–1976), Hettie Wampler (1900–1901), Edna Rose Wampler Williams (1901–1994), and Gertrude Wampler (1903–1905).
Lorena died in 1905 at the age of 36 from tuberculosis and was buried in the Hughes Cemetery, Paynetown, Indiana.

The inscription on Lorena Chandler Wampler's tombstone is;
Rena Wampler 1871–1905.

The Monroe County Death Index lists Lorena as follows:
Name: Wampler, Reaney Mrs.
Age: 36
DOD: February 20, 1905
Burial Place: Hughes

In 1964, due to the construction of Monroe Lake, the Hughes Cemetery was one of eight cemeteries moved to the Allen's Creek Cemetery. The disinterment and reinterment of Lorena's grave was done on November 3, 1964. In the Allen's Creek Cemetery, Lorena'a grave number is 124. Lorena's limestone tombstone weighed 456 pounds.

It is believed that Lorena was born in 1868 although her tombstone shows her DOB as 1871. The 1870 U.S. Federal Census shows Lorena as age one. In the 1880 census Lorena is age 12. In 1900, the census asked for the month and year of birth and she said she was born in August 1868. Rena's tombstone shows her date of birth as 1871 (rather than 1868) due to her tombstone was likely carved in 1938, or 33 years after her death, and that was the best information available at the time the tombstone was carved. In 1938 when Lorena's husband, John Warring Wampler (1868-1948), was 70 years old he visited Bloomington, Indiana from Pawnee Rock, Kansas. During John's 7-week visit to Bloomington he and George Harvey Johnson (1892-1979), Lorena's son-in-law, carved 5 tombstones. However, it is also possible that Lorena's tombstone was carved even later in a 1952 tombstone carving project by George Harvey Johnson which also included several tombstones. In this 1952 tombstone carving project George Harvey Johnson was assisted by his son James Alton Johnson upon James return from the Korean War. In the 1952 tombstone carving project James Alton Johnson carved the tombstone of his uncle, Charles E. Wampler (1866-1948).
