James Wilkins, 81, of Crescent City, died Monday, January 20, 2003 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following an extended illness.
He was a native of Edmonson County, Kentucky and had been living here since 1985 coming from Jacksonville, where he had lived since 1965 having moved from Alexandria, Virginia. He was a WW II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre and had served for four years following the war. He was a carpenter and added his skills to many buildings in Virginia and Florida, retiring in 1985. He was a member of VFW Post #10177 Crescent City, 36-year member Lakeshore American Legion, #137, Jacksonville and Loyal Order of the Moose #1641, Pomona Park. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Sallie Brooks Wilkins; brothers, Richard Wilkins, Harrison Wilkins and Thomas Wilkins; sisters, Susan Fitzgerald and Martha Neville.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lois Wilkins of Crescent City; a sister, Hazel Clines of Cave City, Kentucky; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Moose services will be conducted by Lodge #1641 at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka followed by funeral services conducted by Rev. David F. Shokes. Interment will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens, with flag presentation bestowed by the U.S. Army.
