Mrs. J.P. McGranahan, 76, whose original name was Nancy Jane Wolgamot, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, May 8, 1955. She was the eldest daughter of Joseph and Alta Wolgamot. When she was only five months of age, she was brought to Iowa by her parents, which means with the exception of only that brief period other entire life has been lived within the bounds of our own state.

They located at Fairbanks, Ia., where she met and on October 29, 1876, married John P. McGranahan of Blackhawk, county, Iowa. They established their home on a farm near Fairbanks and remained in that vicinity for a period of twelve years when they moved to O'Brien county, locating near the town of Sheldon. This was in the year 1888 and twenty-four years later. They moved to Osceola County locating near to the town of Ocheyedan. In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. McGranahan retired from the farm and moved to the town of Ocheyedan.

The surviving are Mrs. M.M. De La Mater, Sheldon; Albert McGranahan, and Frank P. McGranahan, Ocheyedan, Mrs. Henry Merley, Sheldon; and Mrs. Walter Roth, Worthington, Minn. Her husband, Mr. John P. Granahan of Ocheyedan is living. Mrs. McGranahan had five brothers and one sister, but four brothers have died. The two surviving members of the original group are Clinton Wolgamot, Fairbanks, Ia.; and Mrs. Eva Higby of Bemidji, Minn. She also leaves twenty-eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. McGranahan along with her husband united with the Methodist church in Blackhawk County when a young married woman. Through all the years she remained an active member. On February 4, she quietly died.
